Highly regarded for her courage and integrity, she was captured in 249, when she was already an elderly woman, during the fierce persecutions of the 3rd century in Egypt. Refusing to deny the faith, she was tortured by having her teeth torn out, and was finally burnt alive.  Feb. 9
