Saints Sept. 03 Sts. John of Perugia & Peter of Sassoferrato, Franciscan martyrs. They were sent by St. Francis of Assisi in 1216 to preach among the Moors of Spain and worked in Tervel and Valencia until seized by Muslims and beheaded. Feastday Sept 3 St. Gregory the Great - Pope and Doctor of the Church. He is most famous for sending a mission, often called the Gregorian mission, under Augustine of Canterbury, prior of Saint Andrew's, where he had perhaps succeeded Gregory, to evangelize the pagan Anglo-Saxons of England St. Sandila, A Spanish martyr. He was put to death at Cordoba by the Islamic Moors for being a conspicuous Christian.Sept 3
