Saint John Vianney - Independent Catholic News: Patron saint of parish priests. St John Vianney 'the Cure D'Ars' was the son of a farmer. Born in 1786, he grew up during the aftermath of the French Revolution when clergy were outlawed and many schools were closed. He had little education, but at the age of 20, began training for the priesthood. His studies were interrupted by military conscription. Like many others, he deserted and got back to the seminary.
