SAINT OF THE DAY NOVEMBER 13 ST. NICHOLAS I, POPE Nicholas was a Roman, born around the year 800. In 858 he was elected to the Papacy, and crowned in the presence of the emperor. He affirmed the authority of the Successor of Peter in an era when many local churches were in danger of falling away. Nicholas died in 867, and was buried in St Peter’s. ST.
