ST. COLUMBAN, ABBOT
St Columbanus is one of the most famous Irishmen in history. As a young man, he was a rigorous and ascetic monk. At age 50, he became a missionary, and with twelve companions spread the Gospel through much of western Europe. His monastic Rule became a model for future generations.
